Excursions

This is just a small sample of some of the most popular excursions for this destination. To receive details of our full excursion programme please click here to request an information pack.

Mémorial Museum, Caen

This outstanding museum uses films, multimedia presentations and an incredible array of memorabilia to help students to understand the events leading up to the Second World War, the most significant battles, in particular the D-Day Landings, and the aftermath of the war, including the way in which the conflict has continued to have an effect on how we see the world today. This is one of the best museums of its kind, so allow at least 2 or 3 hours to make the most of it.

D-Day Landing Beaches

Arromanches, with its Mulberry Harbour and special commemorative buildings overlooking the beaches, is well worth a visit to understand the events of 1944. Why not also incorporate a visit to the Musée du Débarquement and the unforgettable Arromanches 360º cinema?

Goat Cheese Farm

Discover how goats’ cheese is made in the traditional way. Meet the goats, learn about cheese production and, of course, join in a cheese-tasting session!

Bayeux

The town of Bayeux is a fabulous place to spend the day exploring, not only for its charming Cathedral and Old Town, but of course for the world-famous Bayeux Tapestry. After learning all about the Norman Conquest with the help of an excellent audio-guided tour, why not discover the more recent history of the region with a visit to the fascinating D-Day Landings Museum and the very moving nearby British War Cemetary. Highly recommended.

Arromanches 360º Cinema

A hugely popular and absolutely unforgettable experience! Filmed using revolutionary techniques and showing on nine separate screens which surround the audience, this moving film truly brings the Normandy Landings to life. Visitors to Arromanches should also take time to enjoy the famulous cliff-top views overlooking the Mulberry Harbour and Landing Beaches.

Mémorial Pegasus

Since its opening this visit, purpose built to house the original Pegasus Bridge in a large modern building in 12,000 m2 of parkland at Ranville, has quickly become a “must-see” attraction. The memorial to the British 6th Airborne Division is dedicated to the parachutists and glider-borne troops who were the first to land during the invasion of Normandy. A fantastic introduction to the events of the first hours of D-Day.
