Strasbourg

This historic city makes it an excellent school trip destination for those looking for a History theme to their school trip.

At the very heart of Europe is home to the European institutions, the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, as well as the European Court of Human Rights.

Its city centre, the “Grande Île” has been classed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a beautiful and fascinating place to visit at any time of the year.

The city, capital of Alsace in the Alsace–Lorraine region of France, dates back to Roman times and has changed hands between France and Germany several times over the centuries. Standing on the Rivers Ill and Rhine, on the border with Germany, the German influences are still very strong, as can be seen in the architecture, with the vast number of extremely pretty timbered buildings, the restaurants and in the names of many of the surrounding towns and villages such as Bischoffsheim and Kaysersberg. The German influence is particularly noticeable during the city’s Christmas Market in November and December, which is recognised as one of the best Christmas Markets in France and is an excellent time for school trips to Strasbourg.

Strasbourg has managed to preserve an exceptional heritage from its rich past. Along with numerous Romanesque and Gothic churches, the Cathedral, built between 1176 and 1439, is undoubtedly one of the major highlights, as is the incredibly beautiful “Petite France” area of the city, best seen either on foot or from one of the “bateau–mouche” river boat tours.

Our selected school excursions will enable you to make the most of this fascinating city and the surrounding areas, on both sides of the French/German border.
